The book 'Dr. Alim, A martyr of 1971' provides an account of the life and work of Dr. Alim Choudhury, one of the Bangladeshi intellectuals killed by the Pakistani army during the 1971 Liberation War.
The book is a first-hand account of Dr. Alim’s private life and political activism written by his wife Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury. Mrs Chowdhury paints an intimate portrait of Dr Alim as a caring husband and father, and a committed activist who played a prominent role in the struggle for Bangladesh’s independence. The tender portrayal of their relationship is intertwined with a description of their activism during the Liberation war and pays testimony to Dr. Alim’s commitment to social justice and to the project of Bangladesh. The narrative also chronicles his abduction and death at the hands of Al-Badr militants on 15th December 1971, whose tragedy and senselessness are heightened by the fact that it was orchestrated by a person to whom they had given shelter.
